Description of the Organization

The goal of the CCNY FIRST Robotics Club is to provide students with an experience to mentor high school students in the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) while also gaining knowledge of science and engineering fields. FRC is a competitive high school robotics competition run by US FIRST where students have to build a game-robot within a short period of time. Although this program is primarily for high school students, mentors are greatly welcomed to assist in team operations by sharing the knowledge they have of engineering or other related fields. In addition to this, we hope to enter ourselves in a college-level competition, such as the VEX Robotics College Competition, or participate in self-initiated robotic projects. The combination  of these two programs will allow participating students to have an opportunity to expand their knowledge of engineering and then share what they have gained to local high school students. We hope that by doing so, CCNY students as well as high school students will be more interested in pursuing a fulfilling career in STEM fields and more open to undergraduate research on campus. The CCNY FIRST Robotics Club was unofficially established in Spring 2013 as an idea proposed by Dr. Yuying Gosser, the Director of the Grove School of Engineering Student Research & Scholarship, who will be the faculty advisor of the club.

Welcome to CCNY’s FIRST Robotics Club!

With the semester going into full swing, we hope to officially begin the FIRST Robotics Club at CCNY. Throughout this semester, we hope to start building ties with local high schools for our mentorship during the FRC 2014 season. We already have contacted motivated students at the High School for Math, Science and Engineering located on the City College campus so that they can begin their own team. As the semester progresses, we will continue to update our progress on this blog.

For now, you can learn about our primary goals here and a bit about US FIRST and the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC).

Our current plan is to hold meetings every Thursday. The room will be announced when the information is available.
